    ADDITIONAL INSURANCE OPTIONS

    Critical Illness

The CSU provides eligible employees and their families the opportunity to purchase Critical Illness Insurance. Critical Illness Insurance is an affordable way to make up the difference between what your medical insurance covers and what you'd owe out of pocket if you or a family member were to be diagnosed with a covered critical illness.

You may be eligible to purchase coverage between $5,000 and $50,000 in $5,000 increments for yourself and up to $30,000 for your spouse. Your kids are automatically covered at 50 percent of the amount elected for yourself. Kids are also covered for 21 additional childhood diseases, including cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Your rates will not increase as you grow older - meaning you'll have the same monthly payment for as long as you have your coverage.

For answers to commonly asked questions, costs, exclusions, and limitations, please review the Critical Illness Insurance Brochure.

    Accident Insurance

The CSU provides eligible employees the opportunity to apply for Accident insurance for themselves and their families at very competitive group rates. Accident Insurance helps protect your bank account from the out of pocket expenses that come with an injury – whether you're coping with a broker arm or recovering from a serious car accident.

In the event of a covered accident, your Accident insurance will pay a benefit directly to you. Benefits are based on the injuries you sustain and the treatments you receive.

For answers to commonly asked questions, costs, exclusions, and limitations, please review the Accident Insurance Brochure.

    Voluntary Life Insurance

Recognizing that individuals have different financial needs, The CSU provides eligible employees the opportunity to apply for Voluntary Life insurance for themselves and their families at competitive group rates. This is in addition to any employer-paid Basic Life insurance already in force.

Some features of your Voluntary Life insurance coverage include:

You may be eligible to purchase up to $1.5 million of Voluntary Life insurance for yourself, up to $750,000 for your spouse/domestic partner and/or $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000 for your children.

You can use the Needs Estimator to estimate how much Voluntary Life insurance you should have. Once you know how much Voluntary Life insurance you should have, find out how much it will cost by using the Premium Calculator.

The CSU provides eligible employees the opportunity to purchase Voluntary Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance. LTD insurance is designed to pay a monthly benefit to you in the event you cannot work for an extended period of time because of a covered illness or injury. This LTD benefit replaces a portion of your income, helping you to meet your financial commitments in a time of need.  This plan offers you the option to select a Benefit Waiting Period and your Benefit Amount.

    • Benefit Waiting Period - Choose either 30 or 90 days
    • Benefit Amount - Choose increments of $100 from $500 to a maximum of $7,500 (not to exceed 60% of your pre-disability earnings)

If your LTD claim is approved by The Standard, LTD benefits become payable at the end of the benefit waiting period. No benefits are payable during the benefit waiting period.
