Jan. 15 at 12:00 PM: Your Rights, Your Future: An Overview of the Road Ahead for Immigrants

Student Affairs encourages you to attend a free webinar designed to help immigrants, advocates and allies understand essential rights and protections under U.S. immigration law and the changes which are expected under the new administration. Your Rights, Your Future: An Overview of the Road Ahead for Immigrants is being shared on behalf of Dr. Judith Millsap, the CSU’s interim systemwide director of Student Equity and Strategic Initiatives. The webinar will be presented live on Wednesday, January 15 at noon and will be recorded. Registration is encouraged to attend or receive a link to the recording. The webinar will be presented by experienced immigration attorneys from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center and will include practical tips to navigate challenging situations and stay informed about your legal options. Feb. 19 and April 8, 12:30PM – 3:30PM: Stop the Bleed (Certification Course)

Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma. Learn Techniques to help "STOP THE BLEED" in a bleeding emergency before professional emergency responders arrive. In this training session, attendees will learn to apply pressure to a wound, pack a wound to control bleeding, and correctly apply a tourniquet. Attendees receive a certificate upon completion. Squeamish around blood? No worries, come and learn anyway! This information can still be relayed to others in a crisis (and there's no fake blood). Some light snacks and drinks will be provided.  There are 2 trainings: Wednesday, February 19th (12:30pm-3:30pm) and Tuesday, April 8th (12:30pm-3:30pm). Where: Library 286. The "Ready, Set, Safety!" (RSS) presentations are a series of lunch and learn meetings led by the Risk and Safety Services Division (OES falls under this division). These talks are designed to better inform the community of risk mitigation programs in place at SF State.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in these discussions as they offer an open forum for anyone interested in learning more about a variety of topics. A lunch and learn is a presentation held during lunchtime in which attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch as they enjoy the presentation. This lunch & learn will cover: Special Events. One of the most important numbers consumers have is their credit score: it affects the ability to purchase a home, buy a car, get a credit card, and other financial decisions. Like with many things, the language around disability has changed, evolved over time, is often a personal choice, related to experiences and connections to a group or community. Where it was once commonplace to use 'person-first' language, which puts the person first and the disability second (e.g., person with a disability), many in the disabled community have shifted to using 'identity-first' language (e.g., disabled person). In this workshop with ARPE professor and disability scholar Toni Saia, we will discuss both of these options to help faculty and staff understand how to be better allies and avoid ableist practices.

Articulate Rise is an intuitive and easy-to-learn tool that empowers you to create interactive and engaging learning experiences. It generates e-Learning courses that are ready for CSULearn to track and report employee completions, streamlining the training process.

In this workshop, we’ll showcase how we used it to develop an employee onboarding course and transform an in-person training into a highly interactive online course on Equitable Hiring Practices. While the tool does require a subscription, we’ll focus on its practical applications, design strategies, and measurable impact.

Mar. 17 – Mar. 19: NERT training, by SF Fire Dept (CERTIFICATION COURSE)

SF State will hold a 3-day, 8-hour daily training March 17th-19th from 8:30am-5:00pm. The goal of the NERT program is to help the residents of San Francisco to be self-sufficient in a major disaster situation by developing multifunctional teams, cross trained in basic emergency skills. Through this program, individuals will learn hands-on disaster skills that will help them as members of an emergency response team, preparing them to respond to a personal emergency or as an adjunct to the SFFD response. Our goal is to host a NERT training session every 2 years on campus (available to the public). To sign up, download the NERT Member app to view the curriculum. You can also find other training dates offered by NERT on the NERT website. Please note, this is a FREE event. When: Monday, March 17th - Wednesday, March 19th (3 days). 8:30am-5:00pm each day with a half hour for lunch (not provided). Accessible Document Training from the CSU:

This training course is available to all CSU employees, and it provides the core fundamentals for creating accessible Word and PowerPoint documents as well as some high-level best practices in regards to PDF documents. An optional Excel module has been added to the course. What you need to know about this course:

  • It consists of four self-paced online modules. ​Each module has a series of sections that include quizzes and an open book exam.
  • Time dedication required is between 2 to 4 hours per module and participants have a total of 180 business days (minus holidays) to complete all modules.
  • After successfully completing the course, a certificate of completion will be sent to the participant.

The San Francisco State University Police Department provides Active Threat Training to the campus community to better prepare our community in case of an active threat/shooter situation. CPR/First Aid/AED training (all day)

The Environment, Health, and Safety Department at SFSU provides First Aid, CPR, and AED training to the campus community 3-4 times yearly.  First Aid/CPR/AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. First Aid, CPR, and AED training is designed for anyone with little or no medical training or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Stop the Bleed training

STOP the Bleed Training Learn techniques to help STOP THE BLEED (StB) in a bleeding emergency before professional emergency responders arrive. This could help save a life! Evacuation Chair Training is conducted by the SFSU Environment, Health, and Safety Department on a monthly as-needed basis to the campus community. Evac Chairs (Evacuation Chairs) is a universal evacuation solution for a smooth stairwell descent during an emergency. Designed to evacuate the disabled, elderly, pregnant, children, injured, blind, Epileptic, or the mobility impaired. The Sutro Library 

The Sutro Library (the State Library’s San Francisco branch) is located at the top floor of the J. Paul Leonard Library.  It holds the original collection of Adolph Sutro (1830–1898), California businessman and San Francisco mayor. The library has a large collection of publications and items dating from the 13th to the 21st centuries as well as one of the largest genealogy collections in the U.S.  Adolph Sutro’s heirs donated his collection to the California State Library in 1913 with the requirement that the collection stay within the city of San Francisco. After operating in various locations for nearly a century, the Sutro Library moved to a permanent home at San Francisco State University in 2012. Check their website here: https://www.library.ca.gov/sutro/

Current Exhibit (as of this writing):  The Intersection of Politics, Land, and the Railroad in Nineteenth Century Mexico: Our new exhibit explores the building of Mexico’s railroad in the nineteenth century. Through documents, photographs, and pamphlets, the exhibit looks at the revolution in transportation, industry, and culture that transformed almost every aspect of Mexican life.
