Ensuring Equal Access
San Francisco State University is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive campus environment for all members of our community. Accessibility is a fundamental part of our mission, and we strive to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to university programs, services, activities, and facilities.
The University works to promote compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title II of the ADA, and California Government Code Section 11135, which incorporates Section 508 accessibility standards for the California State University system.
To support these efforts, we collaborate with departments and offices across campus—including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Disability Programs and Resource Center (DPRC), Facilities Services, Information Technology Services, Transportation and Parking, and other university partners—to identify and address accessibility needs, improve physical and digital access, and foster an equitable campus experience.
While our office provides guidance and consultation regarding accessibility compliance, it does not investigate or adjudicate complaints of discrimination. Individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination or harassment based on disability may contact the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX. Students with questions or concerns regarding approved academic accommodations should work with the Disability Programs and Resource Center (DPRC). Other academic concerns, such as grade disputes, should be addressed through the appropriate university grievance or appeals process.
To report a physical or accessibility-related barrier or concern on campus, please contact the appropriate university office or submit a request through the SF State FacilitiesLink portal. You can submit a request as a guest or as a student/faculty/staff member.
Physical Access Services
SF State provides a variety of services in order to ensure physical access. Below, you will find information about the Cart Service and other mobility resources, parking, accessible classroom furniture, as well as campus Access and Construction Alerts.
Accessible transportation is available to those requiring mobility assistance around campus through Parking & Transportation. More information can be found on the Mobility Transportation Webpage.
At SF State, a parking permit is required to park in any of the lots located on campus.
If you have a DMV placard or Disabled Person (DP) plate but do not have both a placard/plate displayed and a valid parking permit while parked in a blue zone, you may be cited. Parking is enforced 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Placard or DP plate holders may park in Lots 2, 19, 20 and 25 regardless of permit assignment, so long as you park in a blue ADA parking space with 1) a placard displayed and 2) a valid permit.

All furniture accommodations are arranged and provided through coordination between the ADA 504 Unit within Human Resources and Facilities Services. Our inventory includes padded and adjustable chairs, height-adjustable tables, and footstools. Other requests may be discussed with the ADA 504 unit.
Students & Employees who are approved for furniture accommodations are encouraged to submit their requests through the Furniture Request Form at least four weeks in advance of service needed in order to ensure timely service. (For example, students making a request should submit the request at least four weeks prior to the start of the semester). Furniture accommodations will be clearly marked in the classroom and offices.

The University will provide updates on campus construction, related temporary barriers and options for alternate access around campus during University construction projects. Check the Access and Construction Alerts website prior to visiting campus and/or subscribe to receive e-mails as new Access and Construction Alerts are posted.
Construction activity is a constant reminder of the progressive growth of San Francisco State University as facilities are repaired or renovated to better serve the campus community. Many of these projects require temporary adjustments in accustomed paths of travel, often with little notice. Significant efforts are made to use on-site signage to indicate detours clearly, and to maintain accessible routes with minimum inconvenience.
